Splint Bones
Leo got turned out last night and came in with a lower leg injury. We just can't get a break. His inside front leg was hot and swollen and he was extremely sensitive to pressure. He was not lame and his temperature was normal. Courtnery said she thought it was a splint bone issue.
The vet came out and sure enough; its the splint bone. Leo is back to stall rest, along with a regiment of cold hosing and icing. His leg is being treated with Surpass, a topical anti-inflammatory drug. We didn't want to do Bute since he has shown signs of ulcers in the past. We're going to re-evaluate his leg in 2 days. If he's still really sensitive to pressure, we'll take an x-ray to see if there's a fracture. Hopefully, it's just inflammation in the ligament.
Time will tell how long he needs to be on stall rest.
