You know you're in horse country when...
...there's a Dover Saddlery 15 minutes away.
Things have been going really well with Leo. He loves the farm, and the long, lazy hacks are really doing wonders for his attitude. He's much more settled when we work now. And I can't wait to reap the benefits of all this hill work.
Last week we had a lesson with Courtney Sendak, which went well. She had a couple interesting techniques on the flat that really seemed to help us. The first was to use square turns to get Leo straight and on the outside rein. We rode a box at both the trot and canter. The improvement was particularly noticeable at the right-lead canter, but Leo didn't have the strength to keep it up on a 20 meter circle so Courtney wisely adjusted for him when he started to throw a fit. The second technique was to swing my hips left to right in the walk and in the transition from trot to walk, to keep Leo marching. We jumped our first proper liverpool in the lesson - Leo didn't even bat an eye. Courtney said all the training stadium courses have them in the area.
Sally comes tomorrow - can't wait for that! And then Saturday, AOPF is hosting a Jumper Derby. Leo and I are going to run the novice and training level divisions.
