Back to work...
Leo has been back in work for the last 2 week. Last week was light work with just one jump school to see if he stayed sound and he did. This week I increased his work load. He is still sound! yay! He's also been on private turnout to minimize his running around. The flip side of this is Leo is a big jerk under saddle because he has too much energy.
Unfortunately, his bruised ankle came at a bad time for jumping back into competing. There are no move-up appropriate events until August 30th at Loudoun. The plan at the moment is to run Training at Fair Hill on August 9th just to get back into the swing of things, and then run Prelim at Loudoun down in Virginia. From Loudoun, we can then go to Seneca, Flora Lea, Maryland and finish the year at Virginia. Becca is aiming for the CCI* at Virginia and that should be a fairly challenging horse trial course for Leo and I to end the year with.
Nothing is written in stone at this point, but there is still a good change I can get in 4 or 5 prelims before the end of the season even with this set back.
How do you like that optimism!? Hah!
Turns out the event I was supposed to move up at was actually a fairly tough course. Then I jump judged at Jersey, which was supposed to be our second prelim, and that prelim course massacred the field. There were several rider and horse falls at the water (yikes!) and there were a couple of problem combinations. I'm starting to think there are really no soft prelim courses in Area 2. I've just gotta to time everything right so Leo and I are super confident leading into Loudoun like we were leading into Plantation.
